In support of the region's energy goals, the report explores the opportunities and challenges that. The Strengthening and Expansion Plan for the National Electric System (2025-2030) foresees a total investment of approximately MXN 624. On April 9, 2025, the Government of Mexico announced that, as part of the electricity sector initiatives, 29,000 MW of capacity will be added, with CFE. The 2025-2030 National Development Plan, published April 15, outlines the Mexican government's roadmap for the next five years, with a priority focus on energy security and sovereignty. Through 51 strategic projects, it aims to generate more than 22,000 additional MW, reduce dependence on imports. Following the recent energy reforms approved by the Mexican Congress, the new administration has outlined a vision of “energy sovereignty” and “energy justice”. This report summarizes a high-level roundtable that examined Mexico's energy landscape amid these changes. However, existing initiatives to fund this transformation are wholly insufficient for these economies to generate clean energy at the scale required to meet rising demand while minimizing emissions.
